Honors students can earn one of three undergraduate graduation distinctions by completing minimum coursework and meeting minimum grade point average requirements. Graduation with Honors is the basic distinction, and students earning higher grade point averages may complete additional capstone coursework for a higher distinction.

APPLY TO GRADUATE WITH HONORS

To be considered for a graduation distinction from the Honors Program, you must submit an application by selecting the appropriate distinction on the final step of the Exit Review on the online Honors Network. To learn more, please see the information under the "Exit Review Tab" section on the Honors Network student portal page.

When submitting your Honors Exit Review, please ensure that your graduation term is correct and that your course listing is complete prior to saving your Exit Review or processing will be delayed. Deadlines for Exit Review submission will be posted to the Honors listserv throughout each semester.

The Graduation Distinction Worksheet may be used to self-assess your eligibility to graduate with a distinction, but the application must be submitted via the Exit Review.

Please notify us at honors@uga.edu as soon as possible if you are unable to log in to the Honors Network.

Requirements for Graduation with Honors

For Honors students who matriculated to UGA from high school, nine completed Honors courses (in total) are required to be eligible for graduation with Honors.

Academic courses must each be three- or four-credit hours and graded A-F. Three one-credit-hour HONS courses may be used to satisfy one Honors academic course; this is limited to one academic course substitution.

At least three of the nine courses must be upper division (3000 level or higher). These courses can be selected from Honors sections, Honors Options, Directed Research/Thesis/Internship, or graduate-level courses (6000 level or higher).

transfer students

For Honors students who applied to UGA and the Honors Program as transfer students, six completed UGA Honors courses (in total) are required to be eligible for graduation with Honors. We will not accept Honors courses from other institutions to meet this requirement.

Academic courses must be three or four credit hours each and graded A-F. Three one-credit-hour HONS courses may be used to satisfy one Honors academic course; this is limited to one academic course substitution.

At least two of the six courses must be upper division (3000 level or higher). These courses can be selected from Honors sections, Honors Options, Directed Research/Thesis/Internship, or graduate-level courses (6000 level or higher).

CAPSTONE COURSE Requirements for Graduation with High or Highest Honors

In addition to the minimum course requirements listed above for graduation with Honors, students with a higher GPA can earn a High or Highest Honors distinction by completing one of the three capstone sequences of coursework below. Coursework used to fulfill the capstone cannot count toward fulfillment of the basic Honors course requirements.

Approved Capstone Coursework
1. Thesis Capstone: Three hours of CURO-approved research (4960H, 4970H, or 4980H) and a CURO-approved thesis (HONS 4990H or Honors version of departmental equivalent)
2. Internship Capstone: CURO-approved research (4960H, 4970H, or 4980H) and Honors Internship (HONS 4800H or Honors version of departmental equivalent)
3. Graduate Coursework Capstone: Three graduate-level courses (6000+)

Grade Point Averages

- A minimum 3.30 Honors GPA and minimum 3.40 cumulative undergraduate* GPA are required for graduation with Honors.
- High Honors: Minimum 3.50 Honors GPA and minimum 3.70 cumulative undergraduate* GPA
- Highest Honors: Minimum 3.50 Honors GPA and minimum 3.90 overall undergraduate* GPA

*Note: Grades earned in graduate-level coursework do not apply toward the undergraduate GPA used to determine eligibility for Honors Program distinction. Regarding Honors GPA, only graduate-level courses that apply toward requirements of an undergraduate degree will affect Honors GPA.
