By completing minimum coursework and meeting minimum grade point average requirements, you can earn one of three Honors undergraduate graduation distinctions.

Graduation with Honors is the basic distinction. Students with higher grade point averages (see the Grade Point Averages section below) may complete additional capstone coursework for a higher distinction.

To receive a Morehead Honors College distinction on your diploma (Honors, High Honors, Highest Honors), you must be graduating with a baccalaureate degree. If you are graduating with a professional degree (e.g., PharmD/DVM), you are not eligible to have a Morehead Honors College distinction on your diploma, but you will receive a certificate recognizing your participation.

Honors Exit Review graduation application

To be considered for a graduation distinction from the Morehead Honors College, you must submit an application by selecting the appropriate distinction (Honors, High Honors, or Highest Honors) on the final step of the Honors Exit Review graduation application on the Honors Student Network.

When submitting your Honors Exit Review, make sure that the semester of your graduation is correct and that your course listing is complete prior to saving, or processing will be delayed. Deadlines for submission will be posted to the Honors listserv each semester.

Graduation requirements

If you matriculated to UGA from high school:

  1. You must complete nine Honors courses (in total) to be eligible for graduation with Honors.
  2. Academic courses must each be three-credit or four-credit hours and graded A-F. Three one-credit-hour HONS courses may be used to satisfy one Honors academic course; this is limited to one academic course substitution.
  3. At least three of the nine courses must be upper division (3000 level or higher). These courses can be selected from Honors sections, Honors Options, CURO-approved directed research/thesis, Honors-approved internship, or graduate-level courses (6000 level or higher).

If you matriculated to UGA as a transfer student:

  1. If you were accepted into the Morehead Honors College as a transfer student, six completed UGA Honors courses (in total) are required to be eligible for graduation with Honors. You must complete all six Honors courses at UGA. This requirement cannot be met by Honors courses from other institutions.
  2. Academic courses must each be three-credit or four-credit hours and graded A-F. Three one-credit-hour HONS courses may be used to satisfy one Honors academic course; this is limited to one academic course substitution.

Requirements for High or Highest Honors

In addition to the minimum course requirements listed above for graduation with Honors, if you have a higher GPA, you can earn High or Highest Honors distinction by completing one of the three capstone sequences of coursework below.

  • Thesis Capstone: Three hours of CURO-approved research (4960R, 4970R, or 4980R) and a CURO-approved thesis (HONS 4990R or Honors version of the departmental equivalent)
  • Internship Capstone: Three hours of CURO-approved research (4960R, 4970R, or 4980R) and an Honors internship course (HONS 4800H or Honors version of departmental equivalent)

Coursework used to fulfill the capstone cannot count toward fulfillment of the basic Honors course requirements.
