The Morehead Honors College helps place and supports students in summer internships in Washington D.C., Savannah, and New York. Interns receive a substantial stipend to offset travel and living expenses, and in return are expected to work an average of forty hours a week for a minimum of nine weeks. These summer internship programs are for rising juniors and seniors.

For summer 2024, the application process for Washington, D.C. and Savannah is separate from New York. The Washington and Savannah summer 2024 application is now closed.

For the Honors in New York summer 2024 application, current second- and third-year (based on date of enrollment, not credit hours) Honors students in good standing are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Monday, January 8, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will begin in mid-to-late January. Participants will most likely be chosen by early February.

Honors in Washington Internship Program

Honors in Washington is a cohort of 16 students from a range of majors who have compelling reasons to intern in Washington. Because the program is interested in having some portion of the cohort work in Congress, applicants interested in Congressional placements may have some advantage. However, the program encourages participants to apply to any internship that suits their interests, and indeed many each summer work “off the Hill.” While students are responsible for securing an internship, the program assists members of the cohort in their search. All Honors in Washington interns live in the UGA facility in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, Delta Hall; housing is covered and interns receive a stipend.

Honors in Savannah Internship Program

Honors in Savannah places one intern each summer in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia in historic downtown Savannah. Interns typically work on all phases of criminal and civil cases, as well as Department of Justice initiatives. This is a great opportunity for pre-law students considering careers in public interest law. Interns are provided a substantial stipend, and are responsible for securing their own housing.

Honors in New York Internship Program

Honors in New York places two interns each summer at the Greater New York Hospital Association’s Department of Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs, and is designed for students interested in public health, health policy, and hospital administration. Interns are provided free housing in a New York University dorm, and interns receive stipends to help offset living expenses.
