Screen shot of videoIn 2022, Bill Griffin (BBA ’72) received the Jere W. Morehead Award, the top honor given by the Morehead Honors College to a supporter of the college. It recognizes outstanding alumni and friends who have made meaningful and significant contributions to the college and its students. Were it not for Mr. Griffin’s broad network of friends and colleagues, his skill at bringing people together in support of a cause, and his deep love for the University of Georgia, the naming of the Morehead Honors College might not have been possible. With his great support, the UGA Foundation raised more than $12 million from alumni and friends of the University. These funds will greatly benefit Honors students today and in the years to come. Bill and his wife, Lynn, have personally endowed two scholarships for students in the Morehead Honors College.

The Honors Fund of Excellence

Your gift to the Honors Fund of Excellence opens doors to transformative experiences both in and beyond the classroom, fosters intellectual curiosity through extensive undergraduate research opportunities, and ensures that Honors students always have access to the best UGA has to offer.

Gifts to the Honors Fund of Excellence make it possible for students to participate in internships, provide for student programming such as lunchbox lectures and faculty book discussions, and support numerous Morehead Honors College student organizations making a difference on campus and facilitating the growth and development of our students.

Every gift, no matter the size, will enrich the academic and extracurricular experiences of students in the Morehead Honors College.

Support student success

An endowed gift is an investment in the future of the Morehead Honors College and its students. Though gifts to the Honors Fund of Excellence are vital to the continuing operations of our program, endowed gifts allow for the creation of long-term building blocks that will ensure the growth of undergraduate research, travel-study opportunities, and internships. Giving to the Morehead Honors College by way of an endowed gift gives you the opportunity to remain informed about the growth and use of your gift. You will create a lasting legacy in the Morehead Honors College that will benefit students for years to come.

Support the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Through the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO), the Morehead Honors College is a national leader in undergraduate research, and our students are rewarded for their efforts in their increased knowledge base, honed research skills, and acceptances into top-level graduate and professional programs.

Your gift helps fund the CURO Honors Scholarship, a unique program that offers academically talented students from underrepresented groups an opportunity for hands-on learning through faculty-mentored research. The annual CURO Honors Scholarship stipend is $3,000.

Support the Honors International Scholars Program

The Morehead Honors College encourages and facilitates meaningful cross-cultural study, work, and service for its students. Students return to campus from their trips abroad with a better understanding of our increasingly global society and a guide for professional and personal development.

Your gift to the Honors Fund of Excellence will help us keep up with increased demand by supporting merit-based travel awards that provide opportunities including traditional university-sponsored study abroad programs, intensive language training programs, business and internship programs, and public service projects. The average Honors travel award stipend ranges from $2,500 to $5,000.

Support Honors Internships

Every summer, our Honors internship programs place students in internships in Washington, D.C., New York, and Savannah. In Washington, our students work in congressional offices, executive agencies, law firms, media companies, private corporations, think tanks, and nonprofit organizations. In New York, students learn through the Greater New York Hospital Association. In Savannah, students are placed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

Your gift helps provide students with a stipend to offset housing and living expenses during their internship. An Honors internship stipend averages $3,000.
