Since 2021, the Morehead Honors College has been offering the Honors Domestic Experiential Learning Scholarship to help cover the costs of summer experiential learning opportunities occurring within the U.S.
Eligible experiential learning opportunities include summer internships, field study programs, research, and creative projects wherein students’ costs go above the normal cost of attendance and are not otherwise covered by other funding sources (e.g. a significant salary or stipend, the Experiential Learning Scholarship, etc.). For research proposals, the Honors Domestic Experiential Learning Scholarship is restricted to research outside of UGA; to fund summer research at UGA, students should apply for either the CURO Research Award or the CURO Summer Research Fellowship. Scholarships usually range from $1,000 to $3,500.
For the 2026 competition, you must be an Honors student in good academic standing who, as of summer 2026, will be a rising second, third, or fourth year. Applicants must provide a letter of support from someone supervising your experiential learning experience (e.g. the supervisor of internship, professor serving as research mentor) or proof that you’re in an experiential learning program (e.g. letter of acceptance into a field study program). You are required to submit a budget, with a good faith estimate of your costs and any other funding sources. If you are applying to support an internship, you must make clear whether you’re getting paid, and if so, provide an estimated total; if your pay exceeds your estimated costs, you are ineligible for this scholarship.
Applications are now open, with two deadlines for summer 2026 funding – Sunday, April 12 and Friday, April 24 (both by 11:59 PM). Those applying by the first deadline will be at an advantage but some funding will be reserved for students who don’t have their experiences confirmed until the second deadline. Decisions will go out within about two weeks of the deadline.
