Welcome to the Morehead Honors College! The first steps in your academic journey will occur at New Student Orientation. UGA Orientation for most incoming first-year students occurs over a two-day program in June, July, or August. Transfer sessions are only one day and follow a different schedule. Honors students may attend any available orientation session; there is no session just for Honors students, though spaces are limited at each session. The calendar for orientation sessions is maintained by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Be sure to register for an orientation session from your application status page. Be sure to complete or prepare for all required items on the orientation to-do list! Before attending orientation, we ask that all Honors students review our pre-orientation modules in eLearning Commons. These modules will help you prepare for advising and registration, and will clarify the role of your Honors advisor during orientation and throughout your time at UGA. New admits will have access to the eLC modules by the final week of May. First-year students are also asked to complete the Academic Advising: Step One Form, which will help your advisor prepare for your appointment.
During orientation, first-year students will meet with their academic advisor and begin registering for classes on the afternoon of day two, as soon as all holds have been cleared. Because students are advised individually, registration for each orientation session is limited, and early sessions fill quickly. While we encourage you to register for the earliest orientation session you can find, your advisor will ensure you can find courses that work for your degree regardless of when you attend orientation. Once matriculated, Honors students benefit from early registration for all future terms while enrolled in the Morehead Honors College.
Once you’ve attended orientation, been advised, and begin registering for courses, be sure to register for the one-hour Introduction to Honors seminar, HONS 1000H.
Honors advisors advise students for many (but not all) majors in the Franklin College, as well as for all intended Terry or intended Grady majors. For majors in other UGA colleges, an advisor from your college will advise and clear you for registration, but an Honors advisor will be assigned who can answer any questions you may have about the Morehead Honors College. That advisor will email you following your orientation session.
