The Morehead Honors College helps place and supports students in summer internships in Washington D.C., Savannah, and New York. Interns receive a substantial stipend to offset travel and living expenses, and in return are expected to work an average of forty hours a week for a minimum of nine weeks. These summer internship programs are for rising juniors and seniors.
For summer 2025, the process for Washington, D.C., Savannah, and New York will be conducted all in one application. Current second- and third-year (based on date of enrollment, not credit hours) Honors students in good standing are eligible to apply. Applications are open now and will be due October 28, 2024 at 12pm (noon). Interviews will begin in early November. Participants will be chosen by mid-January.

Honors in Washington Internship Program
For Washington D.C., known as Honors in Washington, sixteen students will be selected. Students from all majors who have a compelling reason to intern in Washington are welcome. Because the program is interested in having some portion of the cohort work in Congress, applicants interested in Congressional placements may have some advantage. However, the program encourages participants to apply to any internship that suits their interests, and indeed many each summer work “off the Hill.” While students are responsible for securing an internship, the program will assist them in their search. All Honors in Washington interns live in the UGA facility in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, Delta Hall; housing is covered and interns will receive an additional stipend for living expenses.
Honors in Savannah Internship Program
Honors in Savannah places one student in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia. This internship best suits pre-law students considering careers in public interest law. Past interns have worked on all phases of criminal and civil cases, as well as Department of Justice initiatives. The Savannah intern receives a substantial stipend and makes their own housing arrangements.
Honors in New York Internship Program
Honors in New York places two interns at the Greater New York Hospital Association’s Department of Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs. The Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) is a trade association comprising nearly 280 member hospitals, health systems, and continuing care facilities. The internship is best suited for students with a serious interest in health policy, public health, and/or healthcare administration. Interns are paid, and Honors provides a stipend and covers housing at a NYU dorm.
