The Morehead Honors College can connect you to many Honors-sponsored organizations and programming that will uniquely enhance your undergraduate experience. Learn more below about serving local communities and other UGA students, networking in your desired career field, and joining organizations that help you pursue your goals and aspirations for the world.
Arch Policy Institute
The Arch Policy Institute provides a platform for non-partisan student civic engagement, encouraging students to collaborate on policy development, making voices heard, and rewriting the rules for the common good. Roosevelt at UGA is a chapter organization affiliated with Roosevelt National, which connects chapter organizations at universities across the country. Members meet to discuss current issues, conduct workshops, listen to professor panels and guest speakers, and present on findings and policy proposals.
Ash Service Award
Kathryn and Darren Ash established the Ash Service Award to cultivate and support a culture of locally focused community service within the Morehead Honors College. Awards support two to four Honors students who intern full time during the summer on behalf of a service organization of their choosing in Georgia.
Athens Prison Tutorial
Started by Honors students in 2016, the mission of Athens Prison Tutorial is to serve the interests of incarcerated peoples in Athens-Clarke County through regular educational programming. One-on-one and group tutoring led by UGA students focuses primarily on preparation for the GED.

Equal Education for Athens
Equal Education for Athens, UGA’s student branch of local nonprofit EEA, provides UGA students with the opportunity to tutor and mentor one or more K-12 students from Athens-Clarke County schools. Tutors work with subjects including, but not limited to, math, reading, science, and college readiness. All tutoring is virtual, a convenient option for tutors and students. Additional opportunities for involvement include after-school in-person mentor events, service events, and holding a position on a leadership team.

Honors Ambassadors
Honors Ambassadors represent the University of Georgia and the Morehead Honors College at both recruitment and development events to further the success of the program and to benefit students in the Honors community.
Honors Student Council
The Honors Student Council (HSC) hosts a variety of social, academic, and service events throughout the year for Honors students, by Honors students. First- and second-year Honors students have the opportunity to apply for council membership.
Honors Teaching Assistants
Each fall and spring, Honors Teaching Assistants (HTAs) support the Introduction to Honors seminars, HONS 1000H. HTAs serve as peer mentors for first-year Honors students, introducing them to curricular, research, scholarship, travel-study, and internship opportunities within the Morehead Honors College, the UGA campus, and the community.
Lunchbox Garden Project
The Lunchbox Garden Project engages children in conversations about nutrition, agriculture, and sustainability. Currently, the organization works with Barnett Shoals Elementary School as part of an after-school program, helping children build and tend a garden and teaching lessons related to food and/or the environment.
MATHCOUNTS Outreach
UGA MATHCOUNTS Outreach provides an opportunity for UGA students to help middle school students strengthen their math skills, serve as role models, and give back to the Athens community. Volunteers devote approximately one hour a week to teaching new math concepts, practicing competition-style problems, and strengthening students’ problem areas. A friendly tournament for middle school “mathletes” is hosted each spring at UGA.
Medicine in Literature
Honors sponsors two Medicine in Literature book groups which explore the complexities of healthcare through literature. The groups, which meet one evening a week, expose students to current issues and ethical debates in healthcare, help pre-health students envision possible career paths, and offer a supportive cohort of pre-health peers. Books are provided by Honors. Watch the Honors listserv each semester to sign up.
Peer Assisted Leadership Program (PAL)
Each semester, the Honors Student Council pairs underclassmen with upperclassmen in their major, minor, or pre-professional field through the Peer Assisted Leadership, or PAL, program. PALs meet multiple times a semester to share knowledge and give advice, building friendships, and helping each other navigate the college experience. You can join the PAL program during any year of your Morehead Honors College experience.
Thomas Lay After-School Program
Founded in 2006 by Honors students, the Thomas Lay After-School Program invites UGA undergraduates to Thomas Lay Park, located about a half-mile walk from campus, to spend the afternoon with elementary and middle school students to build relationships, confidence, and enthusiastic spaces for learning and playing. Head mentor positions at Thomas Lay require a weekly commitment and willingness to run club activities, but any UGA student can volunteer on any day that fits their schedule.
