Honors Teaching Assistants (HTAs) lead HONS 1000H seminars in the fall and spring semesters. HTAs are peer mentors for first-year Honors students, introducing them to curricular, research, scholarship, travel-study, and internship opportunities within the Morehead Honors College, the UGA campus, and the community.

HTAs are responsible for a variety of tasks, including leading weekly seminar classes; creating active, engaging lesson plans for class; providing prompt feedback on student assignments; attending HONS 4000H practicum sessions to prepare for their classes; answering student questions; and serving as a source of support for their students.

HONS 4000H

The HONS 4000H course serves as the practicum seminar for Honors Teaching Assistants. The dean of the Morehead Honors College oversees the course, which provides an introduction to pedagogical strategies and serves as a forum in which HTAs can ask questions, share experiences, and develop sound pedagogical practices. The Honors First-Year Experience Program Coordinator is the primary contact for the HTAs, answering questions, addressing issues, and liaising with the dean and staff to assist HTAs and their students fully.

All HTAs are required to attend a fall orientation and register for HONS 4000H in the semester(s) in which they teach. Fall and spring courses are typically taught on Wednesdays from 5:20-6:10 p.m.
