Come out to an information session to learn about the Honors in Washington and Honors in Savannah internships! Past recipients will speak about their experiences and share advice for putting together a competitive application.

The application for Honors in Washington and Savannah for summer 2024 is now available on the Honors website: https://honors.uga.edu/scholarships/internal-scholarships/honors-internship-program/

Current second- and third-year (based on date of enrollment, not credit hours) Honors students in good standing are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 12:00pm.

For Washington D.C., known as Honors in Washington, we will select up to 16 interns. The program welcomes students from all majors who have a compelling reason to intern in Washington. Because the program is interested in having some portion of the cohort work in Congress, applicants interested in congressional placements may have some advantage. However the program encourages participants to apply to any internship that suits their interests, and indeed many each summer work “off the Hill.” While students are responsible for securing an internship, the program will assist them in their search. All Honors in Washington interns will live in the UGA facility Delta Hall; housing is covered and interns who are not Foundation Fellows will receive an additional stipend.

For Savannah, known as Honors in Savannah, one student will be selected to intern in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia. Interns typically work on all phases of criminal cases, as well as sometimes civil cases and Department of Justice initiatives. This is a great opportunity for pre-law students considering careers in public interest law. Interns are provided a substantial stipend, and are responsible for securing their own housing.

Start and end dates will vary by internship, but participants are generally expected to work full-time for at least nine weeks.

NOTE: Students interested in Washington, D.C. should start researching possible internship placements sooner than later, as some will have very early deadlines. Federal agencies (State Department, FBI, etc) are among those with fall deadlines for the following summer. Don’t wait to find out whether you made it into “Honors in Washington” to apply for internships.
