Lunchbox Lecture with Dr. John Campbell
September 1, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:20 pm
REGISTRATION REQUIRED – Sign up via the Honors Network
Please join us for an Honors Lunchbox Lecture on Thursday, September 1 with Dr. John Campbell, Professor and J.M. Tull Chair in Accounting in the Terry College of Business. He will present “Investors Make Predictable Mistakes: How Financial Data Predicts Future Stock Returns.”
Everyone wants to know how to make money in the stock market. In general, stock prices reflect a firm’s value. However, investors sometimes miss critical information that can predict a company’s future earnings. As a result, savvy investors can predict future stock returns. Dr. Campbell will discuss several instances of this phenomenon that academic research has documented.
Dr. Campbell’s research examines capital market consequences of accounting and tax information. He teaches financial accounting to undergraduates, masters, and doctoral students, and has won eight teaching awards and fellowships at the department, college, and university levels, including Undergraduate Teacher of the Year and the Teaching Excellence award, as well as being selected as a Lilly Teaching Fellow. Dr. Campbell regularly engages in consulting on various accounting and finance topics, including corporate training for the investment banking division of Wells Fargo, corporate consulting, and serving as an expert witness. Prior to academia, Dr. Campbell worked as a mergers and acquisitions investment banking analyst with Wachovia Securities, an Audit Senior with PwC, and as a Financial Reporting Manager with Remington Arms Company.
The lecture will be held on Thursday, September 1 from 12:30-1:20pm in 102 Moore Hall. Please make sure to arrive on time. Attendance is limited to the first 28 students who RSVP. Lunch from Barberitos is provided.
This is the lecture Dr. Campbell was set to give last April, but needed to reschedule last minute.
