High School Applicants

The Honors Program at the University of Georgia is campus-wide, serving students in all undergraduate majors and providing the benefits of a small liberal arts college nestled within a Research 1 university. Through early registration, small class sizes, a dedicated residence hall, internship programs, travel-study funding, research opportunities, service organizations, academic advising, professional development, faculty connections, external scholarship support, and alumni networks, the Honors Program opens doors to the best the university has to offer.

High school seniors applying for first-year acceptance to the University of Georgia Honors Program for the Fall 2021 term have two possible points of entry into Honors:

    (1) Those who apply for UGA Early Action Admission will be considered for automatic Honors acceptance. Those automatic acceptance decisions will be released in mid-December.
    (2) Students who are not auto-accepted into Honors may apply through a separate Honors application. That application will open on December 1, 2020, and will be due on February 1, 2021.

Students may submit but will not be required to submit SAT or ACT test scores as part of the Honors Program application process. This change will allow the Honors Program to better serve students applying for Fall 2021 acceptance by ensuring that testing limitations related to COVID-19 do not impact a student’s ability to apply to the Honors Program.

The University System of Georgia (USG) has approved the temporary adjustment of admission requirements for USG institutions due to the uncertainty about the availability of SAT/ACT testing during the COVID-19 pandemic. USG made the decision after monitoring testing availability during the spring and summer, when multiple test date cancellations have prevented thousands of students from having access to a testing opportunity.

Due to the continued challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and facing prospective applicants concerning access to standardized tests, the University of Georgia has decided to make SAT or ACT test score submissions optional for the Fall 2021 application process. UGA has taken this step as a part of our commitment to help reduce barriers for rising high school seniors applying for Fall 2021 acceptance.
