Alan J. Jaworski Science Award, Physical Science

Dr. Alan Jaworski was a professor of botany and an outstanding teacher and researcher. He was exceptionally dedicated to helping Honors students achieve their maximum potential. This award was created in his memory to recognize outstanding male students in the sciences. It is one of the highest honors that the Honors Program can bestow on male students majoring in the sciences.

Majors: Mathematics (BS/MA) and Computer Science (BS)
Hometown: South Saint Paul, MN

Activities/Honors: Graduating summa cum laude as a First Honor Graduate. Recipient of Strahan Award and Hollingsworth Awards from Department of Mathematics. Goldwater Scholar and Foundation Fellow. Executive on the Honors Program Student Council, VP of Communications for Math Club. Member of Corsair Society.

What I like most about the Honors Program: I'm very grateful for all of the excellent students and professors I have met through the Honors Program, from those early days in Myers Hall until now.

Why I chose my majors: I dipped my toe in freshman year and found mathematics to be subtle, profound, and intoxicating. On the other hand, computer science is one of the best ways to accomplish valuable things at scale in the real world. Majoring in both was the peace treaty struck between my inner romantic and inner pragmatist.

Post-graduation plans: After finishing my master's degree this summer, I will start work at Epic Systems as a software developer.
