What I like most about the Honors Program: I enjoyed taking the smaller Honors sections of classes because they allowed me to get to know professors better and engage with the material more.

Why I chose my major(s): I have always been interested in human behavior, particularly in the study of crime and deviance. I stumbled upon sociology, not knowing anything about it, because I was looking for classes that focused on criminal behavior. Soon after I began taking classes in the sociology department, I started seeing the world around me in an entirely new way. I started to actively pay attention to phenomena, like power, identity, unspoken rules, and group dynamics, that I had never given much thought to despite my professed interest in people and their behavior. The outlook that I have gained from studying sociology continually feeds my curiosity, which I have found exceedingly fulfilling. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else!

Post-graduation plans: I will begin my doctoral studies this fall at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Sociology.
