| current high school students To be considered for entry into the Honors Program, high school students must first apply to the University of Georgia through either the Early Action or Regular Decision application process. Students will not be notified of their Honors decision until an Undergraduate Admissions decision has been determined. The Honors Program seeks applicants with a strong balance of academic achievement in challenging curricula supported by success on either the SAT or ACT.
There are two methods through which students may be offered acceptance into the Honors Program:
1. Automatic Acceptance
Approximately 10-15% of the students admitted to UGA though the Early Action application process will be offered automatic acceptance into Honors. Offers of automatic acceptance are based on high school grade point average (GPA), curriculum, and SAT or ACT scores. Notification of automatic acceptance will be mailed to students after the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has released Early Action decisions. Typically, notifications of automatic acceptance into Honors are mailed by mid-December. If a student is admitted to UGA during Early Action and has not heard from the Honors Program by January 1, the student should complete an Honors application. A complete Honors application must be received no later than February 1 for consideration.
2. Honors Application
While students may apply to Honors prior to admission to Georgia, Honors applications will not be evaluated until a student is officially admitted. Students interested in the Honors Program should submit a complete application no later than February 1, whether or not they have been accepted to the University of Georgia.
The application requests information about academics, awards, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Students must also submit a one-page essay, a teacher recommendation, and a copy of their high school transcript with fall term grades (unofficial copies of transcripts are acceptable). Upon receipt of a student’s application, the Honors Program will send e-mail confirmation indicating that the student’s application has been received.
Applicants should download and save the fillable PDF application to their computers via Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari prior to starting the application.
Applications to the Honors Program must be received by February 1 and all Honors Program applicants will be informed of their application status no later than April 1.
Students applying for the Foundation Fellowship and Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship must also complete the Honors Program application.
Students accepted into the program will be mailed an official acceptance letter and enrollment form. Returning the required enrollment form reserves the student's place in the next class of Honors students. The information on this form also helps us plan for advising during Orientation.
Failure to return the enrollment form by May 1 will result in forfeiture of the student’s place in the new class of Honors students.
current uga students First-Semester Entry is the only opportunity that current UGA students will have to apply for acceptance into the Honors Program. Students must meet the requirements outlined below during their first semester in order to be eligible to apply. The requirements include: - 3.75 cumulative University of Georgia GPA*
- 15 credit hours for the semester in which they are applying (14 of which must be graded A-F)
* Beginning with first-semester entry applications for Spring 2014, the minimum cumulative UGA GPA requirement will be 3.80.
Credit hours earned through Advanced Placement, summer classes, or joint/dual enrollment courses will not be counted toward this minimum credit hour requirement. However, grades earned through summer classes or joint/dual enrollment courses taken at UGA will be counted toward the minimum GPA requirement.
Entry into the Honors Program is competitive. The fulfillment of the requirements listed above does not constitute automatic admission into the Honors Program. In addition to the fulfillment of the requirements listed above, applications will be evaluated based upon UGA grades, rigor of coursework, and the overall quality of the application, including a required essay and faculty recommendation.
Students must complete the application by the last day of classes for the semester in order to be eligible for acceptance. Complete applications must be received by the posted deadline. In all cases, students will not know their exact cumulative University of Georgia GPA before the application deadline. However, students must submit their application by the deadline in order to be considered. Admissions decisions will not be made until all grades have been posted.
Students who apply for entry during their first term will be notified of the Honors Program decision via their UGAMail account over the semester break and given the opportunity to register for Honors courses for the following semester if accepted.

students at other colleges or universities To be considered for entry into the Honors Program, transfer students must first apply to and be admitted to the University of Georgia. Students who transfer to UGA must follow transfer admissions procedures for the University of Georgia and must be accepted to the University before being considered for the Honors Program.
To be eligible for Honors, transfer students must have completed at least 30 transferable hours of graded academic credit and must have at least a 3.75 transfer GPA. Beginning with transfer applications for Spring 2014, the minimum transfer GPA requirement will be 3.80. Transfer acceptances will be determined on a space-available basis.
Transfer students must apply to the Honors Program prior to their first term at the University of Georgia. Complete transfer applications must be received no later than the deadline specified on the application to be eligible for consideration. While students may apply to Honors prior to admission to Georgia, Honors applications will not be evaluated until a student is officially admitted.
If a student is enrolled in classes at another institution in the term prior to their entrance into UGA, an unofficial final transcript must be received before the Honors Program will render a decision on the application.
