“The Honors in New York Internship at the Greater New York Hospital Association in New York City was a personalized and highly rewarding experience. Attending staff meetings, assisting with hospital patient safety collaboratives, and participating in hospital site visits, I was immersed in current healthcare issues. Susan Waltman is a caring mentor who made sure I could take part in meetings and events that piqued my interest, particularly in the area of medical malpractice reform, defensive medicine, and perinatal safety collaborative. The internship reaffirmed that I am equally passionate about public health and medicine. The two fields will be intertwined in my future career.”

“Last summer, I interned at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island. Working in the Nonproliferation and Safeguards Division, I helped format and build the ‘Nuclearpedia,’ a prototype wiki site that aggregates nuclear-related content for policy makers from Capitol Hill to the International Atomic Energy Agency. I also collected and synthesized open-source information on Syria’s nuclear capabilities for the site. Interning at BNL provided experience on the applied side of nuclear nonproliferation and strengthened my career ambition of working in international security negotiations.”

“Working at the UGA Press was an enriching experience academically and professionally – academically because the work exposed me to pressing environmental issues facing the Southeast and the nation, professionally because it informed my understanding of academic publishing and enabled me to contribute to the scholarly discourse on topics ranging from climate change to creative nature writing.
“I quickly learned at the Carl Vinson Institute that local and state government have just as much if not more impact on my daily life than the federal government! My project to catalog examples of consolidated city-county governments in the United States exercised my skills as a policy analyst and expanded my understanding of economics and local political institutions. Most of all, I was amazed by the dynamism and cooperation that characterize local government in Georgia.”

“The best part of my Honors in Savannah Internship at the U.S. Attorney’s office last summer was getting to accompany the assistant U.S. attorneys to federal court hearings. It provided a glimpse at life as a federal prosecutor, which doesn’t faintly resemble what is depicted in film and television. Seeing first hand what working on federal criminal trails is like has made me consider a career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.”
